Recipe origin: Fioniki, Greece
How old is this recipe? 100+ years old

The story behind the recipe:

This recipe was passed down from my Yiayia, who learned how to make it from her own grandmother. It is a true staple to our family, and can be seen on the table during every gathering.

With the growing popularity of Mediterranean food, we’ve seen a ton of modifications to tzatiki. We believe it’s a simple sauce and less is more. Every time we share this recipe, people are shocked how simple it is!

Our favorite way to enjoy tzatziki is with grilled meats such as pork souvlaki or on a gyro, which consists of pita topped with meat, tomato, onion, french fries, and tzatziki!

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz full fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 grated cucumber
  • 1-2 cloves grated garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Handful of dill, chopped
  • Salt & pepper

How to make it:

1. Start by grating the cucumber using the largest holes on a box grater

2. Next, squeeze and drain the water out of the grated cucumber. This step is essential for making a creamy tzatziki – if you skip it, the water from the cucumber will cause your sauce to separate.

3. Then, stir everything together! Mix the squeezed cucumber with the yogurt, garlic, dill, olive oil, salt, and pepper.

It's easier than ever to tell beatiful food stories.
